about
‘Jesus is From Chico’ is not a religious song, the band were on tour in California, and were stuck
without a place to stay on a gig night in the town of Chico (North California). Jesus was a young man,
who welcomed them into his home for the night - so the guys decided to honour his good deed in their
song as a thank you.
This song is the second track of their upcoming E.P. titled ‘Powerduism’, that has as a core mission to
translate in music the different emotions the band has gone through since their creation as a duo.
The duo state “The song was born on the road”, Martin (Vox & Guitar) and Pj (Drums) describe this song
as a dive into the feelings of touring musicians/artists, it is about the conflict between doing what they
love the most (touring) and at the same time the feeling of missing out on important things that are part of
their everyday lives at home. It also describes the sense of de-realisation linked to denuding yourself in
public every night, leaving a piece of your soul on stage again and again. The confrontation between the
ephemeral consumption of their entertainment and the wholeness of their performance each night.
This song kicks it off with a Grungy guitar riff that catches you by surprise, followed by an evil almost
clownlike laugh.
The lyrics are poetic and embark you on an emotional journey on tour with the band. They talk about the
difficulty of being an artist and having to always please someone, even when sometimes you would like to
be the one enjoying the show, but also the constant uncertainties that lie within the artist’s life - are we
going to make it ? How can I keep the heating on ? Is this all worth it ?
The drums are a journey that goes from jungle music to grunge till the end when the duo decides to bring
the song to an explosive outro that leaves you wanting more.
lyrics
Jesus is from Chico
Start the show, get out of my way
I've got to please people, or they throw me away
You say that you didn't know,
Another day rolls over another show
We've hit cruise control, control
Well baby show me now, 'cause I never learn somehow
You don't know every show, a piece of my all
Never makes it home, I'm bare to the bone
Baby show me now, 'cause I never learn somehow
If fortune favours the bold,
Then surely riches will flow, at the end of this road,
But there's no knowing for sure, anymore, anymore
Well baby show me now, 'cause I never learn somehow
You don't know every show, a piece of my all
Never makes it home, I'm bare to the bone
Baby show me now, 'cause I never learn somehow
OOOOooooo
